Doesn't everyone fantasize a bit about vigilante justice? Haven't you ever read or heard of some despicable act of violence and secretly wished you could have the opportunity to make the predator pay? Welcome to the VIGILANTE Series, a growing collection of suspense best sellers best described as thrillers and mysteries which will have you cheering for the assassin as justice is delivered in a clandestine fashion. Book 2 of the VIGILANTE Series

#1 KINDLE BEST SELLER in VIGILANTE JUSTICE!

The friendly takeover of CSS Inc. leaves computer executive Chris Barry unemployed, very wealthy and pleased with the situation. But the hiatus is short-lived... As a result of his involvement in the recent Vigilante investigation, Barry is approached by Jonathan Addley, head of Discreet Activities, and invited to join the clandestine government agency. Accepting, he promptly takes on his first assignment under the guise of an IT consultant, to investigate possible links between a local import business and the murder of its MIS director. As he discovers the firm is being used for narcotics trafficking, his cover is blown and things get personal, spurring him to show that murderers, drug lords, biker gangs and kidnappers are no match for The Consultant...

The Consultant A Vigilante Series crime thriller edition by Claude Bouchard Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

If you read "VIGILANTE" (the first book in this series), you will remember that Chris was the vigilante righting the wrongs by taking out the scum of Montreal -- eliminating murderers, pimps, drug dealers, gang-bangers, wife beaters, child molesters and the like. He was bringing vigilante justice to those the police couldn't catch or who had somehow managed to escape justice through the courts. He retired after one final job. Will anything ever make him hunt for vigilante justice again?

Walter Olson (founder, President & CEO) and Chris Barry (EVP & COO) have sold their shares of CSS to CompuCorp. Walter is ready to retire & Chris decides to retire as well, a very wealthy man in his mid-thirties. He can spend his days & nights with his wife, Sandy.

Lieutenant Dave McCall is now Captain McCall. He and his wife, Cathy, are friends to Chris & Sandy (the two couples met at the end of "VIGILANTE").

During his last week of employment at what is now CompuCorp, Jonathan Addley (Director of Police Relations employed by the federal government's Ministry of Defence) visits Chris. Besides his duties at the Ministry of Defence, Jonathan is responsible for an elite division that has no name but is referred to as "Discreet Activities". This division works with similar divisions in other companies.

Jonathan tells Chris a story about how the real vigilante could not have been Carl Denver (he committed suicide because he had embezzled six million dollars). When he was faced with an accusation, he jumped to his death and the vigilante murders were pinned on him (dead men tell no tales). A witness (Mrs. Denver) has come forward with information that her husband could not be the serial killer, he had alibis for most of the murders and there is proof -- AND she admits that he had embezzled the six million dollars -- but the money is now missing (it was supposed to be in a bank account in the Cayman Islands, but it's not there when Mrs. Denver goes to the bank). Now she is broke and has no place to go...

The Consultant is a brilliant continuation of the "Vigilante Series". The author grabs your attention from the beginning of the story and keeps you reading. This book was a real page-turner and had enough twists & turns to keep you guessing -- right to the end! I read this book in a couple of hours and enjoyed it immensely. I am interested in the main characters and cannot wait to see what happens next. You REALLY have to pay attention, I kept re-reading sections so I could better understand the "who, what, when, where & how". I am starting the next book in the series "MIND GAMES" now...

I HIGHLY recommend this book! Please read "VIGILANTE" by Claude Bouchard for the beginning of this series.

Please Note: I try to write reviews without spoilers to ruin the story because I want people to be interested in reading the book -- and I HATE reviewers who think they need to dissect an entire book, ruining it for those who have yet to read it. There are very few errors in the book.
Just a Thought: A lot of people complain because Mr. Bouchard uses the word "anyways" instead of "anyway". If it bugs you that much, just read it as "anyway" -- some people actually DO say "anyways" (obviously).

The Consultant A Vigilante Series crime thriller edition by Claude Bouchard Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This review is from The Consultant (Barry/McCall Series) ( Edition)
I'm hooked on Claude Bouchards writing. I read "Vigilante" and loved it. I then bought the second book in the series--"The Consultant." and was not disappointed.

Being Canadian, I love that these books are situated in Canada (Yeah Canada!!)--but aside from that Bouchard's writing is masterful. I have read a lot of murder/mystery/action/adventure/ conspiracy books written by big name writers and Bouchard does not take a back seat to any of them!!

Chris Barry is a smart, creative, tough man that no one would want for an enemy--as you discover in "Vigilante". But in "The Consultant" he proved that he was willing to work on the `right' side of the law--if he wasn't pushed. But when he was, he became as lethal as he needed to be to get the job done.

I really get off on Chris and his wife, Sandy's, relationship; the understanding and support that she gives him as well as the undeniable love that they share.

Johnathan Addley was an exciting partner for Chris Barry in this book. I liked the way they interacted, even though they didn't know each other well.

Dave McCall and his wife Cathy and Chris Barry and his wife Sandy have a wonderful friendship; but Dave and his wife have no idea about the secrets that Chris and Sandy share. Could they handle it if they really knew?

I'll be reading the next book in this series with great anticipation! I'm sure Bouchard will not disappoint me.
I think this is a much better book than the first in the series, The Vigilante. The writing style is improved and the story moves along much more fluently and an appropriate number of the characters are Canadiens (French that is!) making the Montreal setting much more believable! The whole plot is so far out and wild though, that it makes McGyver and Reacher look like Bugs Bunny but it sure makes for great escape literature, which, of course, is what one is looking for in this genre.
As I had figured out at the ending of first novel the actual identity of the Vigilante, it leaves me with the question of if it is OK to have a serial killer, probably known to the police, as the "Hero" regardless of his motives and the actions and the lifestyles of his victims.
I also question why this book is listed as in the "Barry/McCall" series. McCall is only a very minor character in this book and really has nothing to do with investigating or solving any crimes at all.
Technically the book is much better edited than the first one with only a couple of minor typos that didn't interfere with the reading but the same horrible formatting problems exist with the eBook edition as did in the first one. For some reason it took until the third eBook in Tom Lowe's Sean O'Brien series to straighten out the formatting so we'll have to wait and see what happens with the third one in this series!
And I most definitely intend to read "Mind Games" and probably the rest of the series.
The Vigilante, who helped rid Canada of numerous vicious elements in Book 1 of the series, is unofficially brought in to help a clandestine law enforcement organization bring down a narcotics trafficking ring.

Our hero methodically sets out to gather evidence to be used as evidence against them, but then it gets personal. Nobody, but NOBODY messes with Mrs. Vigilante and lives to tell about it!

If you read and enjoyed Book 1 of this excellent series by Claude Bouchard, you will certainly enjoy this sequel. If you haven't yet read The Vigilante, what are you waiting for? Great stories about a fairly average guy who's just had enough, and fights back for what's right.
